Municipality tables draft budget

Andile Moshoeshoe

DEPUTY Mayor for the Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Local Municipality Kholeka Hadebe has tabled the nearly R300 million Draft Budget for the 2026–2027 financial year.

She delivered the address during the municipality’s Integrated Development Programme engagement where community members were briefed on both completed projects and projects that are still in the pipeline.

The session was in Ward 10 at Gobhogobho Community Hall in Nkwezela, Bulwer.

Hadebe acknowledged the significant progress that has been made and said that this year’s budget remains under severe strain due to the country’s fragile economic climate, further worsened by global conflicts and the continued rise in petrol and diesel prices.

Despite these financial constraints, she urged residents to actively participate in the democratic process by turning out in numbers to vote. She expressed concern that only between 55 000 and 59 000 residents have registered to vote, despite the municipality serving a population exceeding 150 000.
