A PUBLIC library in EmaXesibeni, previously known as Mount Ayliff, was among the Eastern Cape libraries that received digital equipment on March 18 from the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture. The equipment was handed over by MEC Sibulele Ngongo.
The handover formed part of the department’s event that hosted libraries from March 16 to March 18 in KuGompo City.
The event was themed: “Reclaiming Knowledge, Empowering Futures”, in line with South African Library Week.
Another library that received digital equipment was Mdantsane NU14 Public Library.
These libraries have now been equipped to support e-gaming and digital learning, each receiving two tablets, six computers, coding and robotics kits and an Xbox gaming console. The equipment for the EmaXesibeni library was received by librarian Phumzile Gqoboka, who said that the initiative aligns with the broader ‘libraries of the future’ vision that aims to foster a strong culture of reading, promote literacy development, and enhance social cohesion through the use of innovative technologies.
