The first prize for the race/walk of 5km will be R1 000.

This year’s event will serve as a Comrades Marathon qualifier for a number of runners. Over 2 000 participants from across South Africa and beyond are expected.

Requirements are as follows: participants must be 20 years and older to participate in the 42.2km,16 years and older for the 21.1km, 14 years and older for the 10km, and nine years and older for the 5km race.

At the launch of the marathon in February, Harry Gwala District Municipality mayor Zamo Nxumalo said that the district marathon also played a key role in tourism as it continues to showcase beautiful landscapes to visitors.

“We invite athletes, families and supporters to join us for a day of sport, unity and local pride,” he added.
