EFF marches to municipal offices

MEMBERS of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) in the Kokstad area have given the Greater Kokstad Municipality a directive to address their concerns.

The party held a demonstration at the municipality’s main offices on Thursday, February 26, demanding service delivery and raising other concerns.

The party also requested intervention to renovate sports facilities, which are said to be in a state of disrepair.

It requested that the municipality look into sports facilities, claiming that the sports grounds are not usable at night because the lights do not work and the grass remains uncut. It raised concern over incomplete payment of EPWP employees and lack of proper uniforms for EPWP workers.

It claimed lack of fairness in the allocation of tenders, while calling for a proper investigation. The party further called for action against the special programmes manager, claiming his involvement in unethical practice. The party’s Kokstad sub-regional chairperson Zukisani Tshangase said the municipality needs to stop being controlled by politicians.

Municipal spokesperson Zolani Siqwayi assured the municipality’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical governance.

“We have received the memorandum with enquiries and timeframes, and upon receipt, the municipal manager will facilitate the processing of the enquiries through consultations with line managers, senior managers, and political leadership,” he stated.

He emphasised that swift actions will be undertaken where necessary. He assured that members of the public and concerned parties will be informed and engaged once the municipality has finalised its determination on these matters.
