Municipality addresses water woes

ANDILE MOSHOESHOE

CHALLENGES regarding water in the farm community of Thuthukani outside Kokstad are being addressed by the Harry Gwala District Municipality. This followed the visit by municipal leadership to the area on Wednesday, February 11.

Led by district mayor Zamo Nxumalo, the municipality intervened to address water challenges that compelled community members to dig up trenches to install water pipes on their own.

The municipality was inspired by the community’s enthusiasm to solve water problems and offered to assist. Two water tanks were delivered as an intervention. The water tankers will be installed to reserve water from the springs and allow testing to determine if water is safe for consumption.

Mayor Nxumalo said that the municipality discovered that the community had a shortfall of equipment and promised to bring them the necessary equipment to access water.

“We made it clear that we have no intention of disrupting the project started by the community. But instead, we will intervene to ensure that the water is drinkable and safe,” he said while commending the community for their initiative in coming up with solutions to their water challenges.
