School principal thrives in music

A SCHOOL principal at a rural school in Umzimkhulu has been flourishing in music, while inspiring school learners and teachers at the same time.

Lizwe Mbele, principal of Nguse Junior Secondary, has earned the stage name Jiz’obomvu. During the festive season he performed at events, and spent time working on his craft.

His music career began in the 80s when he performed along with a music group. However, the passing of five group members in 2022 forced him to launch his solo music career.

His hard work in the entertainment industry has led to the release of maskandi album Ayikho Lento in 2023. He later released Amazondo and Jehovah Ndibusise.

In September last year he released his EP called Unogada with five songs and in November, another EP called Unami was launched with eight songs.

“I am now busy working on another EP in collaboration with other artists,” he said.

He described his music, which contains maskandi and gospel varieties, as entertaining for both young and old. He said his music consists of a guitar in the background, with lyrics about social issues.

“My music is played on various radio stations in both the Eastern Cape and KZN,” he said, adding that it does not interrupt his responsibilities as a school principal in any way.
