THE Umzimvubu Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape has achieved an unqualified audit opinion with no material findings from the auditor general for the 2024/25 financial year.

This achievement reflects the municipality’s continued commitment to sound financial management, effective governance and transparent service delivery. The clean audit affirms that the municipality’s financial statements are free from material misstatements and effective internal controls.

The municipality said that maintaining this status for two consecutive years demonstrates stable leadership and effective financial management processes that contributed to a clean audit, disciplined administration and strong oversight structures.

It further said that the reason for this achievement was that the municipality upholds governance ethics and ensures that all quality measures are in place and operate effectively.

It said there are effective internal controls and systems which result in reliable, credible information.

Mayor Zukiswa Ndevu echoed the sentiments that the attainment of a clean audit affirms the municipality’s unwavering commitment to sound financial management, ethical governance and strict compliance with legislative requirements. 

“While we welcome this recognition, as we ensured strict oversight, we remain fully aware that our ultimate responsibility is to translate good governance into meaningful, reliable service delivery for our residents,” she said.

She thanked municipal employees for their dedication in making sure that municipal processes are correctly followed. “All we need to do is ensure that we comply with the requirements of the Municipal Finance Management Act and other related pieces of legislation and regulations as we implement the municipal programme of action,” Ndevu said
