THE rural community of Chibini in Ntabankulu dedicated last weekend to fighting against drug abuse through sport.
The community participated in sports activities from October 4-5 as an intervention to reduce substance abuse.
Sabelo Mgotywa, founder of the Sabelo Mgotywa foundation, organised the U15 tournament to keep young people busy with something of greater value than substance abuse.
Mgotywa said the area has a high rate of substance by young people. He said during the school holidays, the foundation will conduct activities to keep young people in sport.
Soccer teams that participated in the U15 tournament won different prizes. In the U15s, Abahlobo FC of Lubhacweni won R5 000, a soccer kit, trophy and medals. Galili Eagles FC won R3 000 and Valencia FC won R1 500. In the U21s, Shining Birds FC won R7 000, a soccer kit, trophy and medals, while Langeni FC won R5 000 and Cosmos FC took home R3 000 in prize money.
