AS part of improving the state of road networks in the rural villages of Gugwini and Phepheni in EmaXesibeni (Mount Ayliff), Umzimvubu Local Municipality introduced contractors to facilitate the maintenance and construction of two access roads in Ward 1 and Ward 3.
The projects include an 8km Thabo access road and 6.1km Mmangweni road via Madamara to Senyukele.
The municipality said that the initiative was to ensure sustainable development and growth of the economy through increased access to road infrastructure, especially in rural areas.
“As the municipality, we want to assure communities that it is in our best interest to better the lives of people. We are committed to improving infrastructure and connectivity within our community,” said Mayor Zukiswa Ndevu.
She added that access roads are not only pathways but also links that connect families and support local businesses.
She said the municipality works with engineers, contractors and community leaders to ensure construction is carried out responsibly and with minimal disruption.
She explained that the roads will be built with quality materials. King Ntintili, a member of the traditional council in the Phepheni village, thanked the municipality and said the road infrastructure will make things easy for motorists and locals.
