COMMUNITY members of Mbalentle in EmaXesibeni (Mount Ayliff) have been fighting to permanently stay on municipal land. But things took a sharp turn last Saturday, September 20, when they were told to cool down.
Ward councillor Linda Mveku said that the municipality of Umzimvubu intends to profile residents living in the area and evaluate the state of the land.
He said this will assist the municipality to understand the number of people living in the area. He said that the data will be sent to court for a final decision. These developments were welcomed by the community.
Community representative Mpumelelo Dambuza said that residents remain optimistic about getting proper houses. Umzimvubu Local Municipality refused to respond saying that the matter is in court.
