 LAST weekend in the Umzimkhulu area the local community came alive with fun, sport, culture and tourism activities.

This was during the 9th Tourism Festival hosted by the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality. The festival has grown into a significant platform for sport activities, culture, tourism and entertainment.

The event commenced on Friday with a vibrant town parade meant to set a tone for the weekend’s celebrations. On Saturday, a horse-racing competition in Kokshill was conducted, filled with exciting races as well as the sale of handmade items and entertainment from local performers.

The entertainment line-up featured well-known artists such as Sikweleti, Zethembe and Solwazi, along with upcoming musicians who also showcased their talents. The weekend wrapped up on Sunday with activities such as mountain hiking at Engonini as part of boosting tourism.

Hikers had the opportunity to experience and appreciate the scenic beauty of the Umzimkhulu area.

A thrilling car-spinning show also formed part of the festival with skilled drivers demonstrating their talents in vehicle stunts. Umzimkhulu Local Municipality mayor Jabu Msiya expressed his gratitude and joy for the success and growth of the event.

He also acknowledged the support of stakeholders and wished them continued success in strengthening the festival in the years ahead.
