Locals celebrate municipal manager return

NOLUVO MGIJIMA

THE return of Zamile Sikhundla as the municipal manager in the Alfred Nzo District Municipality in EmaXesibeni (Mount Ayliff) was celebrated by a group of individuals on Wednesday, September 10.

A convoy of vehicles, dancers and other people accompanied Sikhundla as he walked into the municipality building following a judgement that ruled in his favour. He was suspended and later dismissed in November last year.

After a lengthy battle for his dismissal, an order was issued by the court for him to report to work this week.

But municipal spokesperson Luncedo Walaza said the municipality is still studying the court judgement and will later make a public announcement.

In welcoming his return, the African National Congress (ANC) in the Alfred Nzo region condemned demonstrations of individuals who welcomed Sikhundla with festivities in the municipal premises.

ANC Alfred Nzo regional spokesman Lungisile Mzanywa said the Alfred Nzo District Municipality is a public institution meant to work for the community rather than being used for other things.

“Whilst the ANC welcomes the return of the municipal manager as per the judgement of the court, a proper institutional culture, professionalism and conduct must at all material times be displayed to achieve the ideals of the people and the commitment of the ANC for better life,” Mzanywa said. He added that the ANC has directed councillors, management and staff to ensure that there’s stability and calm in the institution.
