THE body of an old man (72) was found hanging from the roof of his house in Dokodela in Libode, outside Mthatha recently.
Police said the man was strangled with a rope before he was hanged.
It was reported that suspects hanged him so it would appear as if he committed suicide.
“The motive is alleged to be robbery of his money that the suspects knew was kept in the house safe,” said police spokesperson Captain Welile Matyolo.
He confirmed the arrest of a suspect (52) and said police are still looking for another suspect linked to the crime.
Police OR Tambo district commissioner Major General Norman Modishana has welcomed the arrest of the suspect who appeared in the Libode Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 18, on a charge of murder. Modishana said this was a well-orchestrated murder, and police will get to the bottom of this so that perpetrators can be brought to book for such an inhumane act.
