THE community of Lusikisiki is still shocked following an incident in which a man (42) allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend and wife and was later found dead.

In the early hours on Tuesday, August 5, police launched an investigation after the two women were shot and killed in Ngobozana.

It was reported that the man shot his ex-girlfriend (22) in a local tavern in Chithwayo and later his wife (49) at home in Unity Park.

He later fled the scene in a family vehicle. However, the vehicle was discovered abandoned by the police.

After the murder of the victims, an intensive search by both communities and police was launched and yielded results on Wednesday when the suspect’s body was found in Gqathula, approximately 10km away from the Lusikisiki town.

Police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said the body was found in an open field by community members who alerted authorities.

“The man’s lifeless body was found in an open field with a 9mm pistol nearby. The deceased was positively identified as the suspect in the Ngobozana murders,” she said, adding that preliminary reports suggested that the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, though police are conducting a thorough investigation. Lwandile Gcume of Ngobozana Development Foundation in Lusikisiki has called for men to join trauma groups to help them deal with serious problems instead of taking their own lives and the lives of others.
