MESSAGES of condolence have been pouring in since the death of Councillor Eunice Voko (56). The news was recently announced by the Alfred Nzo District Municipality.

Voko, of Lukholo in Mbizana, died on June 19 after a short illness. She joined the Alfred Nzo District Municipality council in 2021 following the local government elections as a proportional representative councillor of the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality.

She served as a standing committee member for the Corporate Services Department (CPS) and a member of the ICT Governance Committee.

Alfred Nzo District Municipality speaker Sixolile Mehlomakhulu offered his condolences to the family and friends of Councillor Voko.

“We have lost a leader and compatriot who served our district as an activist, an individual with compassion for the poor and marginalised groups in the society. We lower our flags for this selfless leader, and our thoughts are with the family, friends, colleagues and the organisations she served outstandingly.”

District mayor Vukile Mhlelembana said the municipality will honour the life and times of Councillor Voko by ensuring that people receive quality services.

He said the municipality will continue to deliver water and fight poverty and unemployment.

“The family is in our thoughts and prayers during this time,” he said.

Voko was laid to rest on June 28 in the Lukholo village.
